Dan Dare begins in the ‘Eagle’

Dan Dare, a British science fiction comic hero, created by illustrator Frank Hampson, appeared on the cover of the first issue of the weekly comic strip magazine, Eagle, on 14 April 1950. There were two large colour pages of his story, Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future, per issue from 1950 to 1967. The story was dramatised seven times a week on Radio Luxembourg (1951–1956). Dan Dare is depicted in Michael Irving’s 1972 play.
