Margaret Thatcher becomes Prime Minister

Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister on 4 May 1979 with a 44 seat Conservative majorit Arriving at 10 Downing Street, she said, in a paraphrase of St. Francis of Assisi’s prayer, Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace: “Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.”
