Bengali given official language status in Pakistan
June 8, 2016 6:59 pmOn 21 February 1956, Bengali was recognised as an official language of Pakistan. In 1999, UNESCO declared 21 February as International Mother Language Day, in tribute to the work of the Language Movement (the Bengali political movement in former East Bengal advocating the recognition of the Bengali language)and the ethno-linguistic rights of people around the world.
