His first production was a Christmas comedy, Dracula with Daniel Day Lewis, which was such a success that it was brought back the following year. During his tenure, Chris’ productions included Sweeney Todd, which opened the New Half Moon Theatre in April 1985, and Elizabeth, both with Gillian Hanna; an ambitious adaptation of Moll Flanders; George Costigan in Love on the Plastic and As Is, one of the first plays about HIV/AIDS; and the satirical musical Poppy.
